Bloc Party- The Prayer
The music video 'The Prayer' by Bloc Party continues the typical music video style that is common for Bloc Party. The continuing theme of being abstract is heavily represented by weird occurrences . The video begins i a regular fashion by showing a medium close up of a woman dressed for a night out entering a building. This says that this sort of music is associated with younger people especially those that are connected to going out. However the cut that leads to a over the shoulder medium shot reveals the location. The cut reveals that the building is dirty and damaged which suggests that the age group that this i associated normally have good times in dilapidated buildings. There is a motivated cut when the woman looks over to the lead singer who is sitting on the couch. The medium close up shows his bored expression as the lyrics start. His expression matches the scene which is shown with a cut to a long shot that reveals the whole room. The room turns out to be a small run-down club with very little excitement which is paralleled to the expression on the lead singers face. Numerous shots follow to show close ups of the other bored expressions on the other band members faces. This is a contradiction to the rest of the shot as there are people dancing and having a good time. The long shot the follows show the band as outcasts from the group that are enjoying themselves. A close up of the lead singer focuses on the transformation of their mood which is parallel to the lyrics as they 'pray' for 'the power to impress'. The special effects in the following shots splits the shot around the lead singer. This is to show the different emotions that have emerged in each of the band members as there new emotions emerge through the split on screen.
